Many of our Dacorum athletes made the trip to Sheffield EIS (English Institute of Sport) for the England Athletics u20, u17 and u15 indoor championships. Qualifying standards were high so this was always going to be challenging.

However, great performances were seen.

Gold medals went to Ellie Bostock in the under 17 shot put with a throw of 12.91m and Isabella Turner in the under 17 pole vault with a vault of 3.25m. National champions, what more can we say!!

A silver medal went to Nathan Hedges in the under 17 60m. He came through incredibly strongly winning his heat with a PB of 6.98 seconds (first time below 7 seconds) and then winning his semi-final with another PB of 6.87 seconds and then equalling his new PB in the final, only 1/100th of a second behind the gold medallist. Three PBs in a single day is virtually unheard of….

Toby Cherry was also in PB shape clearing 1.99m in the under 20 high jump. Toby has been struggling with injury, so to come to the National final and add 7cm to his PB was an excellent performance that saw him finish 7th in the tournament.

Tom Gaunce and Oscar North both qualified for the under 20 400m. Oscar faced and enormous challenge, drawing the inside lane which is a challenge when running indoors and his heat was run in an exceptional time with Mario Dobrescu and Sam Lunt taking the qualifying spots in times that were 14th and 35th fastest in the World this year. Tom qualified comfortably for the semi finals but just missed out on a place in the finals.

Well done to everyone, let’s see what else 2023 brings…..
