Strong U15 performance in Ipswich

Report by Katy Warren and Matt Hamilton

The U15 boys had a fantastic performance at the first EYAL match in Ipswich. The boys really pulled together as a team and helped fill all but 3 gaps, which was something considering they had a team of 8 this time out, due to the match falling in the Easter Holidays. The entire team put in some brilliant performances across all the events and the team came away with 2nd place in the match.

Athlete of the match was Michael Joyce, who had a fantastic run to win the 800m A string leading from start to finish. He equaled his PB in the 200m with 2nd place in the A string and also finished 2nd in the 100m. These two great sprint performances were even more impressive seen as through he had just ran an 800m!

Ed Foy stepped up to debut in the 800m, finishing 3rd in the B string. Ed also won the javelin A string and finished 3rd in the 80m hurdles with two PBs!

Eliot Kerr came 2nd in the 200m B string, 2nd in the 300m B string and put in a PB performance to finish 3rd in the high jump A string.

Josh Lee ran a 1s PB to finish 3rd in the 300m A string, he won the B string long jump and finished 3rd in the A string shot, as he continues to build back to his best after last season’s injury.

Alex Jackson had a fantastic day in the field with three wins coming in the B string shot put, discus A string and hammer A string, also bagging two PBs!

Oscar North finished a strong 3rd in 100m B string, he scored a PB in the 300m! As well as admirably stepping in to fill a gap in the javelin.

Arya Ariasa-Surrey’s first performance in a D&T vest was certainly one to write home about! He won the A string long jump before going on to also take the win in the B string 80m hurdles. If that wasn’t enough, these two events overlapped, meaning Arya had to step out of the long jump competition to run his race before returning to cement his victory. He also ran a great time in the 100m non-scoring race.

Jamie Lilley had a strong season opener in the 1500m A string, coming very close to his PB and setting himself up nicely for the remainder of the season.

The 4x100m team of Oscar North, Eliot Kerr, Josh Lee and Michael Joyce ran a superb race to take 2nd place behind eventual match winners, Havering.

Oscar set the team up nicely with a fast first leg, before a strong back straight by Eliot. Josh kept the pressure on the leaders around the final bend and despite a dramatic fall on the final change over, the baton stayed in hand and Michael cemented the team’s 2nd place with a great anchor leg.
